With the help of some generous donors, we have purchased 2/3 of an acre. This is enough land to build a concrete school and a two room administration/library building, along with a kitchen/cafeteria. This is the dream, but the reality now is wooden structures that serve as classrooms.
The Rotary Club of Concordville Chadds Ford, together with Reach Global and the Rotary Clubs of Media, Chester and Twin Valley received a Rotary District 7450 grant to put a well on the property. Additional private and wonderful individuals funded the building of the concrete well house that also serves as an office.
With the help of Rotary Clubs, we are starting a library, adding a shaded area, fruit trees, a kitchen/cafeteria to support a much needed food program. Next on the list is sanitation facilities.
For the dream school – concrete classrooms, we need to raise about $250,000 for 16 classrooms, put solar in for the well and class rooms, and invest in internet and computers to open the world of education to the students.
The long term goal is to purchase more land so that more classrooms can be built and the school can go past the 9th grade to the 13th grade. Additionally, Maxo and Avril would like to expand the school to teach trades to the local community members.
